THE DIVE SITE
A Reef Full of Life
Coolio's Dream is one of the lesser-known dive sites in the God's Pocket region near Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island. It's a reef shaped by tidal movement and covered in an impressive variety of cold-water marine life.
Large plumose anemones cover sections of the rocky structure, while rockfish, lingcod, nudibranchs and countless invertebrates occupy the reef. Giant green anemones and decorator crabs add to the diversity.
The constantly changing light, visibility and current can make the reef look different from one dive to the next. It's the kind of place where there's something to discover whether you're looking across the entire reef or examining a few square feet.

Rockfish occupy the reef structure, while lingcod can be found resting among the rocky features.

DIVING CONDITIONS
Cold-Water Diving Experience Matters
Coolio's Dream is a northern Vancouver Island boat dive, where conditions can include tidal currents, variable visibility and cold water.
Divers need to be comfortable using a drysuit, maintaining buoyancy and following a dive plan appropriate to the conditions. Dive timing and site selection depend on the weather, tides and currents.
UB Diving plans its charter operations around these conditions, with the skipper making the final operational decisions.
