Named The Day Coolio Died

A Dive Site Born From An Unforgettable Day

7 Gangsta’s Paradise was first explored and named during a remarkable day diving in God’s Pocket Marine Park when news broke that Coolio had passed away. The atmosphere surrounding the discovery became unforgettable, and the name immediately became permanently attached to the site itself.

Beneath the surface divers discovered a dramatic cold-water reef environment covered in giant plumose anemones, dense marine growth, steep structure, colorful invertebrate life, and swirling schools of Pacific reef fish moving through nutrient-rich tidal flow.

The site combines the cinematic atmosphere of Browning Pass with the dense biodiversity that has made Port Hardy internationally respected among underwater photographers, expedition divers, and serious cold-water explorers.

Every section of the reef feels alive. Lingcod patrol the structure while nudibranchs crawl across the walls and clouds of rockfish drift continuously through suspended marine life carried by the current.

During calmer visibility windows divers ascending through the reef often watch entire sections of marine life slowly emerge from the dark green water beneath towering forests of giant plumose anemones.

Many divers remember 7 Gangsta’s Paradise not because of one single marine species, but because the entire reef seems to move continuously with life from the moment divers descend onto the structure.

Because the site is exposed to changing ocean conditions, the best dives usually occur during carefully selected weather, current, and visibility windows.

Dives at 7 Gangsta’s Paradise are often combined with Browning Wall, Coral Island, Nudi Bay, Five Fathom Rock, and other legendary God’s Pocket Marine Park dive environments throughout northern Vancouver Island.

Trips aboard Good Vibrations combine fast vessel access, premium cold-water support, photography-friendly layouts, and professional marine operations throughout Vancouver Island’s legendary northern dive environments.
