Gangsta’s Paradise
A Dive Site Born From An Unforgettable Day
Gangsta’s Paradise was first explored and named during a remarkable day diving in God’s Pocket Marine Park when news broke that Coolio had passed away. The name became attached to the site because the day, the reef, and the discovery were impossible to forget.
Beneath the surface, divers found a dramatic Vancouver Island cold-water reef covered in giant plumose anemones, dense marine growth, steep structure, colourful invertebrate life, and swirling Pacific reef fish moving through nutrient-rich tidal flow.
The site combines the cinematic atmosphere of Browning Pass with the dense biodiversity that has made Port Hardy internationally respected among underwater photographers, expedition divers, and serious cold-water explorers.
Every section of the reef feels alive. Lingcod patrol the structure, nudibranchs move across the walls, and clouds of rockfish drift through suspended marine life carried by current and tide.
Gangsta’s Paradise is often paired with other verified UB Diving northern Vancouver Island dive sites including Browning Wall, Coral Island, Nudibranch Bay, Five Fathom Rock, Rock of Life, and Seven Tree Island.
Because the site is exposed to changing ocean conditions, the best dives usually happen during carefully selected weather, current, swell, and visibility windows. UB Diving uses local site knowledge, professional vessel operations, and realistic cold-water planning to choose the best available dive opportunities for each expedition day.
