Sky Alexander Smyrichinsky grew up immersed in British Columbia’s diving and marine environment, spending his entire life around the daily operations of UB Diving and Vancouver Island’s cold-water diving community.

As the son of UB Diving founders Sean and Shellie Smyrichinsky, Sky was raised inside the family business from an early age, learning firsthand what it takes to operate a professional cold-water diving operation built on hard work, accountability, customer service, and real-world marine experience.

Long before officially stepping into a management role, Sky was already part of the day-to-day workflow of the shop, expedition preparation, customer interaction, vessel operations, cylinder handling, and the countless behind-the-scenes responsibilities required to keep a busy Vancouver Island dive operation running smoothly.

Today, Sky plays an important role helping support the continued growth and daily operation of UB Diving while carrying forward the same family values and professional standards that helped build the company into one of British Columbia’s respected cold-water diving operations.

Outside of the diving industry, Sky is deeply committed to another lifelong passion — rugby. Far beyond a casual athlete or weekend competitor, rugby has become a major part of Sky’s identity and professional life. As both a competitive player and dedicated coach, Sky has traveled extensively throughout British Columbia, across Canada, and internationally helping lead and develop athletes at local, provincial, national, and international tournaments.

Rugby leadership, coaching, travel, discipline, and team development are deeply embedded in who he is. The same work ethic, accountability, teamwork, leadership, and resilience demanded in high-level rugby continue to shape Sky’s approach both personally and professionally inside the family business.

Whether supporting expedition divers at UB Diving or leading athletes on the rugby field, Sky reflects the same values of professionalism, commitment, respect, and leadership that Sean and Shellie worked hard to instill from the very beginning.

As the next generation of the Smyrichinsky family involved in UB Diving, Sky represents the continuation of a long-standing Vancouver Island diving operation built around real-world marine experience, strong family values, customer relationships, and British Columbia cold-water diving expertise.
